ams OSRAM has signed a final agreement to sell its fabless CMOS image sensor business to indie Semiconductor for €40 million. The transaction is expected to close in Q3 2026. The business, based in Belgium and Portugal, focuses on smart high-performance CIS for industrial, automation, and physical AI applications.

For indie, the acquisition directly strengthens its multimodal sensing capabilities across radar, vision, LiDAR, and ultrasonic, complementing its ADAS portfolio. Mark Tyndall, EVP at indie, said the deal reinforces indie’s position in sensor fusion and expands its GaN SLED light source portfolio.
The sale is part of ams OSRAM’s strategic move to streamline operations and focus on core optical technologies. Recent divestitures include its non-optical sensor business to Infineon and its entertainment and industrial lighting business in 2025.
For indie, this marks another step in its M&A-driven expansion, having previously acquired EXALOS AG, GEO Semiconductor, TeraXion, and emotion3D since 2021.
